Kayenta Boarding School participates in the Family and Child Education program, providing prenatal to early childhood parent education. Personal home visits every one to two weeks include lessons and workshops on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being. Parents and guardians are given the tools to support their children’s development and prepare them for classroom learning.

During FACE Family Circles, held at least once a month, families gather to learn about child development and parenting as a greater school community. Parent-child activities, book readings, and local culture and language topics are emphasized. Parents, guardians and children become part of our school family long before students are enrolled. The FACE program provides techniques and habits to prepare children for their first school day.

FACE supports families with a preschool educational program that helps children develop social-emotional, listening, cognitive and motor skills. These early developments allow children to enter and advance through school at an appropriate speed. FACE program relationships also help identify any child's special needs, which helps guide families to the appropriate special education services.

Our FACE program’s household educators provide developmental screenings twice a year. Children also receive overall health screenings, including hearing and vision checks. All parents and guardians of preschool and early elementary-age students are encouraged to enroll in Kayenta Boarding School’s FACE program.
